Competition entries in the following categories, disciplines and styles are allowed
Classical Oriental, Folklore, Oriental-Fusion/Fantasy, Tribal, Bollywood

 

Disciplines

Classical oriental
Raks Sharki, Oriental-Pop, veil dance (for entrance), floor work, Takseem, Drum Solo, cymbals. Also Baladi and classical routines which include short folkloric pieces or entrances with accessories.

Folkloric: Egyptian, Arabic, Turkish, Balkan, Eastern
Stick or candelabra dance, malaya, scarf dance, tambourine, sword (Bedouin
style - for fusion or tribal sword see the tribal section below), Debke, Andalucian -Arabic, Moorish court dance, Bambouti ( spoon dance), Derwish dance/Tanoura, Gypsy dance, Karshliamar, Ghawazee, Hagalla, Persian, Usbek, Tadjik, Zaar (trance), Saudi or Khalegi, etc.

Tribal/Tribal-Fusion
All tribal styles are allowed in this section with or without props: also Fat Chance Belly Dance style, Tribal fusion, Tribal Break beat, Gothic, Tribal sword and floor work, etc.

Oriental Fusion/Fantasy:
Oriental mix with spanish/flamenco influence, also Rumba, Tango, Jazz, modern dance, Afro, samba, Bellywood (oriental with Bollywood), acrobatic, feather boa, candles, Pharaonic dance, Isis-veil dance, veil dance, fanveils, etc. NB the oriental input into your dance style should be an obvious 50% or more to qualify for this discipline.

Several Disciplines can be considered together depending on number of contestants!

 

Categories

Several categories can be considered together - please specify on application

Solo m/f, Duet m/f, Group ( 3-7 people), Formation ( more than 8 people)
tots to age 6, kids to age 11 ( maybe judged together depending on number
of contestants), junior (age 12-15), adults (16-54), seniors ( 55-)


Music (gema-free!)
Solo/Duet max. 3,3 Min and maximum 5 minutes (groups/formations) - limit may be shortened depending on the number of contestants. Recognisably Oriental music or percussion or classics) - no (Brit) pop chart songs!

 

Your entry will be judged on the following points:
1) Choreography - so please do tell us if you are using someone else's
choreography!
b) Music, theme and interpretation
c) Technique
d) Timing & Synchronism (duo/group/formations dances)
2. Stage presence
3.Costume and presentation (NB. We are NOT looking at how expensive your
costume is - just how well it fits with your act)
Group dances will be judged as a whole - solos in a group dance are
allowed but should not overshadow the group performance.

Running order and rules
Round one - performance to own or named choregraphy , judged.
Round two - Soloists only: Live drum solo - Improvisation to live percussion.

Jury/Judging
Our dance jury will consist of six-7 highly competent and objective world dance stars, specially selected for their fairness and consideration. They are: Momo Kadous (Egypt), Aziza (USA /Canada), Guo Wei (Beijing/China), Sujee Choi (Korea), Schachlo Usbekistan, Viviane Gerhard (Swiss) and Leyla Jouvana herself. The points will be announced over the tannoy after we have seen all performances in your discipline/category. Dancer with the highest points at the end is the winner and the top five will be announced. Note : on grounds of fairness, Leyla will not judge her own group (one jury member will judge instead of her), nor will the other judges jugde any group or pupil of their own should they take part. Audience please note : the strength of your reaction and applause will also be taken into consideration when judging!

Show-Acts and Workshops with World Class Stars:
During the contest we will also have a chance to enjoy the dancing of our dance jury and much more world dance stars with workshops from 19/11/10 through to 29/11/10
in the centre for oriental dance in Claubergstrasse 20 - 22, 47051 Duisburg

Green Room
We have a green room backstage with free drinks and snacks for all participants


Fees up to 15.10.10
As in all competitions we have to take a yearly fee of 9 Euros per participant - (this pays for your licence to perform) plus 9 Euros for each entry in whatever category or discipline. There are no further fees!. So if you only perform once you pay only 18 Euros. For a further performance another 9 Euros, etc.

 

After 15.10.10 the fees per entry go up to 18 Euros but you still only pay 9 euros for the licence.

 

Video Policy:
Contest & Show-Acts are video taped and the DVD will be available to buy.
Special reduced prices for contest participants.

Contest and show prices for the audience
24 Euro in advance or 27 on the door for the whole day pass including the fair, contest and show stars performances
19 Euros in advance or 22 on the door (if you buy a second ticket for shows on 27
and 28 of December)

Opening/beginning
20.11.10 Fair opens at 1 pm and contest starts at 3pm - open end - please check in October when we will have a better idea of how many entries we have!
